![]() One of the airport roundabouts has the instructions how to reach customs ( in portuguese "alfândega" ). The customs warehouse is at the airport but you cannot access it on foot from inside the airport. I don't really remember if customs accepts payments by card. Also prepare to spend some money and take cash. Take your ID CARD, PASSPORT, NIF CARD (tax card if you have one). You don't have to go there, you can do it by phone/email but it's faster imo. You can only pickup objects personally from customs if the package is addressed to your name ( you cannot pickup for someone else ). After customs tracks the package, they will check whats the reason for being held at customs and may ask you for documents ( proof of purchase/comercial invoice ). Only they can provide the number to you, not customs.Īfter having this LOCAL number, you can then contact customs via email and tell them that you want to speed up the process of the package at LOCAL nr. Provide them with the tracking number and ask them for the LOCAL of the package at customs warehouse. You have to call CTT Expresso at 808 200 118 or 707262626 ( this one is call centre ) or email them at (normal post) or (express post). I'm assuming you're receiving a tracked package via CTT. The reason your mobile phone was stopped at customs is most likely to apply the "media storage tax", a law that went up and running earlier this year (pay cents per gigabyte on any storage capable device whether it's hard drives, usb sticks, cameras or in this case mobile phones). Portuguese customs are very slow, if you do nothing you'll have your package in 2 months. You can speed up the process by calling customs office and provide them with the information necessary to unlock this situation.Īfter sorting everything they will either dispatch through CTT (the basic post office) or will tell you the "location and hallway" (there is no way to translate these WORDS properly to English but these are the terms used to locate stuff at their warehouse) at the customs office warehouse so that the courier you hired (DHL, FEDEX, GLS) can go there and pick it up very fast (customs office warehouse is huge, I've been there 4 times). In any case you can contact, even in english, the Autoridade Aduaneira, or use their phone line (not sure menus are in english), just ask "do you need any more documentation regarding this order?" that is a very simple question and any reply will give you a clue what is going on. Was it a private seller? Did they include customs information on the outside of the packaging? Because customs can not open private correspondence, not normally, and that usually can cause big delays when they are not sure what something is. They should provide that info, it should be their responsability if they are selling online. Contact seller, ask them to confirm you paid the correct (portuguese) VAT and any "taxas de armazenamento". If the seller was dutch it should be all clear. I have ordered electronics from outside the EU (but all legal, seller charged the customs fees themselves) and when they got here the shipping info was as if they came from Germany or Italy. Is this normal, and is there anything I can do?įrom what I understand no taxes are applicable since it was sent from the Netherlands,ĭid you buy from a dutch registered seller? from their point of view it does not necessarily matter from where it is shipped exactly, because some things are reshipped from logistic middlemen.
